QUICK REVIEW:

                Diebold is clearly the largest firm in the game.  However, it is relatively new to the game too.  To get in the election business (other than internationally), they purchased Global Elections Systems in 2001.  Global was nearly bankrupt when Diebold purchased them.  Since that time Diebold has worked hard to gain sales. The most notable large sale was to outfit every county in the state of Georgia and Maryland.  Diebold also expanded their offerings by purchasing DIMS voter registration system which is now installed in several US counties, and has also won statewide VR work as well.

                Diebold has also starting expanding their product line, producing now an electronic pollbook system called Express Poll.  See below for details.  Shown directly below is the TSX machine with the AccuView Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). Below that is their electronic pollbook offerings.

                Diebold has also had its fair share of controversy in this industry.   That history is well documented on other web sites.  I don't include that material here.  However, in late 2006 and early 2007 Diebold began telegraphing that they would start giving consideration to leaving the election business.  It is, after all, a small percentage of their total operations, but 99% of their negative press.   In August of 2007, they provided their election unit more independence.  The new division is called Premier Election Solutions and their website can be found HERE.
