QUICK REVIEW:

Hart is clearly a major player in this business.  They now have some rather large installations.   They are an old printing company with long roots in the industry (like Dayton Legal Blank, Fidlar, etc.).   As for the voting machine, it all comes down to the question of whether or not you like that little wheel (or jog-dial).   That's the number one issue I hear.   But I have always been a bit critical of counties that simply reject Hart out of hand because of the wheel.

I always tell counties that they simply can't ignore Hart that easily.  Yes, you may not like the little wheel, but that's just part of the story.  Hart has a story to tell, and counties would be well advised to hear it.   Keep in mind that their system is NOT a touch screen.  The small voting device is not a computer per se, but hooks up to a precinct controller that does contain all the intelligence.  That lowers the cost of the actual voting device.   Remember, after HAVA the county will have to pick up the tab for voting devices.  With the Hart solution, the feds will have already paid for the expensive part of the setup (the Precinct Controller). Just a thought.
