QUICK REVIEW:
The AutoMark system is now being marketed by ES&S. ES&S did a good job by getting hooked up with this system.
The AutoMark system uses a touchscreen device to mark a standard optical scan ballot. So the DRE is used merely to mark the paper ballot--therefore, no internal recording of results. This system also meets the requirements of having a voter verified paper trail. Also works with alternative languages and disabilities.
The machine currently supports the following seven languages on the touchscreen: English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. For visually impaired people, audio prompts for these languages are provided over headphones, and the voter indicates his or her selections with a special keyboard, that includes Braille markings. This keyboard was designed with input from the visually impaired community.
