QUICK REVIEW:

These guys came out right after Florida.  Well, we knew they were coming.  They showed up at a hotel in Columbus.  The voting machine resembled some kind of Communist-era Russia washing machine.  It was big, bulky and not very sophisticated.  It did have this innovative airport terminal restroom no-touch flush mechanism in it--so if the voter flees the little IR (infrared) beam breaks and the machine can be reset.   

Well, a lot has happened since that first visit.  Avante has re-worked their machine and now it also has a paper ballot that can be voter verified. It prints a paper receipt under glass that the voter can verify.  That ballot is then retracted back into the printer unit.  The machine is still a bit bulky and I think would be hard for pollworkers to work with.  But Avante is making progress after 5  years.  However, I do not believe they have any active customers.  Their continued presence in this market has been fueled by the concern over voter verified paper audit trails (VVPATs).   Avante's EVC308-FF is a FULL Ballot face machine that is certified by NASED.  They are obviously pinning their survival on New York and their upcoming purchase.  The VOTE-TRAKKER is certified in 15 states.
