QUICK REVIEW:

       Accupoll was created in 2001 by a bunch of guys out of EDS (you remember Ross Perot?).  This is a publicly traded company with an interesting twist.  One of the main criticisms of DREs is that they lack a PAPER BALLOT.  So, why not vote on a DRE and then that DRE PRINTS an official ballot that can be counted and tabulated.  This way there is a paper ballot as well as the results in the DRE.  I need to gather more info on Accupoll, but this was an idea that was floated around early after Florida, but no one seemed to think of it.  I had a conversation with the folks at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, and they were thinking about producing just such a machine.  Time will tell how well this strategy works.
